there are vin reports agencies out there that might tell you the status of the title for the car ( stolen/salvaged etc..) . if you are looking to see a carfax or something like that to show you accidents and maintenance done to the car, then you probably will not find that. carfax and others will not support the shortened vin of these older cars. if you are looking for owner history then today's privacy laws will prevent you from getting that information also..

There is NO such thing as a VIN report except the NCRS dealer delivery info. The police can run a check to see if it is a stolen car & that's about it.
Carfax provides this info but it's not free. Last time I checked they got $25 for 1 month of unlimited searches. If you can find someone with a subscription, perhaps they'll get the info for you.

Car fax does not go back far enough, they just cover late model cars with the long VINs. 75 has the short VIN.
You can do a title search but will likely not receive any personal owner information due to confidentiality laws. Your best hope for accidents would come from prior owners.
If you're trying to put together a paper trail for the car, start with the seller and ask for any factory documentation he/she may have for the car.
That's really unfortunate you guys don't have access to the title and accident history. Every used car sold here has to come with a "used car package" that gives all the owners and their home towns since the car was new. GM Canada can also get you the Build Sheet with all pertinent info, if your car was a Canadian build or Canadian import.

Tom...
not only that, but it hasn't been around long enough for much if any info to be reported beyond about 15 yrs. My '95 had zero info in there even though I had lots of documentation on an accident, service, dealer records, etc...
