Default 78 L48 4 speed

Looking for opinions on what motor to buy. Wanna pull my L48 out which has 20k miles, crate it, and install something with about 400 hp. Need advice please on what size motor, brand, etc....anything would help.

One of the easiest and cheapest routes you can go is a crate motor. They are built in all different ratings of horsepower and most come with a warranty. 350 or 383 would be your best bet.

Where is the best place to look for one? Ive looked at Jegs. There are so many brands etc. Kinda looking for some specifics so I can narrow it down.

Some people on this forum have been happy with Blueprint Engines.

You wrote in your header you have an L48 four-speed. You know you have the cast-iron Saginaw bolted up to that L48. L82s came with the Borg Warner T10 four-speed so you may want to consider an upgrade to mate your crate. The Saginaw/Muncie was an economy four-speed intended for low horsepower powerteams.
