Default 4 speed conversion

Does anyone have a list of parts that i need to convert my 1979 auto transmission to a manual 4 speed? Also is there a step by step process to do this conversion? Any help would be great. Thanks

Here are my install notes. This is for a 6 speed T56 but you will need to solve all the same problems. Some will be easier than the 6 speed, and some will be the same.

Things to decide. Hydraulic Clutch vs mechanical linkage. Once you know this step then the pedal conversion will fall into place.
Using a hydraulic kit requires possible additional changes to your pedal arrangement.

I also tested a few 4 speed cars after my conversion and noticed a big difference in the shifting. The 4 speed cars shift like old cars, no spring loaded center gates, shifting throws are very long etc.

I am glad I didn't go with the easy 4-speed conversion, but the costs are much much higher.

I converted from a 4 speed to a T56 6 speed w/ hydraulic clutch for about $1000 after selling the old parts I didn't need anymore.

I was looking at your post a couple of years ago and was wondering if you ever completed your 4 speed conversion on your car I am thinking about doing the same thing on my 1973

hi. new guy. welcome aboard. 2-1/2 year old thread. the guy you were asking hasn't been on here since jan. 2016. start a new thread after using the search function to find out as much as you can first. there is a metric s**t ton of info on 4-5-6 speed conversions. 5-speed makes the most sense. the Borg T5 is the most cost-effective way to go. any relation to Don?
