Take your time and think about it, if you keep the car a new wiring harness is the way to go just wait until they go on sale or keep calling up suppliers and asking for pricing sooner or later they will give you a lower price. When you replace your old wiring harness it will help you understand how the car wiring goes together and in the end you will be much more knowledgeable and electrical will not seam as scary.
there is also 2 halves to harness. the under hood harness which is less expensive and easier to do. and the dash harness which is pricier and more work. one thing to consider trying, disconnect firewall connector and clean connections and reconnect. and every thing you try-ask about on here is gonna get you that much closer to car being fixed and to knowing what you need to know so this car doesn't beat you...
Along with new wiring harnesses.... I`d spring for the laminated wiring diagrams for your car as well!
Full color, easy to follow, with pictures of the connectors & components....
do you think it might have something to do with the blistering 180 or if your lucky 210 horsepower of the mid-later 70`s ?
Sure it does - to a point. If you're looking for an original numbers type car with high hp, you won't find it in the later years as you've pointed out.
People who let this weigh in too much are missing out on some great cars. HP can easily be improved, and for a low cost.
Reality is - show the net hp ratings of any of the earlier years, and they don't see nearly as impressive as they do with gross hp ratings.
