Have any of you guys heard of this? Specifically a 421 interior trim code on a '68? Saddle wasnt offered until '69, so I don't see how this is possible, at least in the context of this trim tag being the original GM trim tag for this particular car. It's a late production car (sometime in mid-July '68), but still. Take a look at attached pic; left-side rivet is definitely off. Also, engine stamp seems off as well. The "IL" doesnt have the same spacing as the rest and the indentation is more pronounced. Broach marks don't look right - almost nonexistent around engine code, especially around the "IL"
the trim tag was definitely added to the car. the engine stamp looks ok to me. i don't see somebody faking it that well. the top of the L corroded away with the stamp pad. you couldn't shave the pad and not have it look freshly machined. is the vin number on the pad correct?

Saddle became available late in the 68 model year so the trim tag codes may be legit. The pad looks dirty, but not otherwise fishy. Usually, an engine assembled in early June and shipped to St. Louis would have been installed in a car assembled in late June, but July 12 does not throw things out of whack.

Didnt realize they put a later-year trim code on an earlier-year trim tag/car. I haven't seen anything out there that shows saddle being offered in a 68, but then again I'm pretty green compared to the elder statesmen on this forum. Hmmmm
Don't know why that ****-eyed, deeper grooved and different spaced "IL" bothers me. Can't think of a good reason why someone would mess with that, especially since the VIN derivative stamp matches the VIN.
