Did anyone else notice the fuel line?? Who used plumber fitting to make a fuel line?
Unless this guy is in a No Smog area. It won't pass emissions testing if he sells it in state. So he needs to sell it out of state or make it legal.
Chances are, the car is ok. In California, it's the seller's responsibility to make sure the car will pass smog at the time of the sale, which is impossible in its present state. In the golden state it's the pre '76 (smog exempt) cars that are desirable. If there's no emmision standards for a '77 in your state, make the guy a reasonable offer , like $5k, there's a good chance he'll take it,
Can anyone tell me why this car has 248 people watching it? That is the most I have ever seen on ANY Ebay auction EVER for ANYTHING and I am a 15 year member! What is the deal?? Pontifications anyone??
Newbie here with a question. I've been shopping C3's in nice condition and find most of them are sadly way out of my price range. But then I come across this one on Ebay that has only a $7500 BIN price and no bids or hasn't been scooped up at that price.
It seems like a beauty according to the pics and description. What am I missing? Educate me? Thanks.
Hubie- I recently bought a 68 convert on ebay. I live in VA, car was in TX at a car wholesale dealer. There are plenty of professional car inspectors (check online) who will go check the car out for you, drive it and give you a list of defects, repairs needed, etc. Also- check the title!!!! VIN must match car, no cross-outs, erasures, etc. and work out in advance how the SIGNED title will be sent to you... Send with the car delivery driver, mailed, FedEx overnight, etc. Also, payment method, so you are assured the car gets shipped when you send the $$$$$. A brief written sales contract with the private owner of this car would be my choice. Cost will be $200-300 for the inspection. Also check out your shipping cost. I paid $1000 for an open-truck shipment from TX to VA. Closed truck cost is about 50% higher. Expect about $2K from CA. Sales tax will be paid in VA when you register the car. The comments about your car's model year have to do with whether the C3 has front and rear metal bumpers or not. Yours does not and is not valued as high, but it is still a Corvette. Take your time- there are a lot of Vettes out there for sale. RA
Why don't you pass on this one. First off don't buy a car unless you can see it. I bought my 80 off E Bay and it was listed as a great car, spoke to the owner who said it was great. 3 years later most of the car is new.
76 and 77 are really pretty cheap. Why don't you look for one on craigs list or in the local paper. That way you can see what you are getting into.
Read The Sticky note at the top of the page. I wish I had before buying my 1980. All said I think even a fair condition vette is still better than 90% of the cars on the road. You only live once so have some fun!

Hey, thanks for the EXCELLENT and thorough advice. I bought my last car on Ebay with no hassle and was very careful about the title and money and everything. The cost of transport from Wisconsin to VA was about 1k open trailer and since it was a fully restored Pontiac Firebird Formula W6 black on black leather new paint job the WORKS, I elected to fly into Wisconsin and drive it back myself. I did a full VIN check on Carfax before bidding and made sure the numbers matched. Ebay is a hotbed of scam artists, that much I do know.
But I have found that buying a used Vette is a WHOLE 'nuther animal altogether. That is why I am on here trying to educate myself before rather than after! I realize there are a LOT of Vette's out there, but the field is narrower for me because of my being picky about the interior/exterior colors and condition and the price I am willing to pay. (Champagne tastes, beer budget.) I am also having a problem in that I needed a car YESTERDAY, and I really need one soon as I have no transportation currently. I am not finding a lot of Vette's available in my price range and color/condition requirements but I like looking!
Thanks again for the first class advice and for taking the time to help out a newbie!

ok, the first thing you do is look at and test drive vettes local to you. even if too rough and ugly for you and even if too nice and out of your price range. it'll give you an idea of whether or not you really wanna mess with one of these. then come see mine in s. jersey...

I looked at the auction and this guy has been on ebay since 2010 and has 100% positive feedback. He also has an early '70's Camaro asking $33k.
Other than that he hasn't sold any cars on ebay. Just for fun, I emailed him and told him I'm local and wanted to know if he can get it to pass Ca emissions. We'll see what his response is.
Good advice here- only ebay cars I ever considered were local that I could test drive. Or would need to go the professional inspector route.
I don't like to wait either but a bad one is an expensive mistake. I drove better and worse ones than what I just purchased so that I knew what a good one felt like.

I ALWAYS get GREAT advice from you guys! In only 2 weeks on here, you all have saved me from making a ton of possible mistakes and also pointed out something on EVERY SINGLE car that could cost me money that I hadn't noticed or knew nothing about.
Yes, I need a car badly right now. But a nice CF member PM'd me and said wait because winter drives down the prices. He suggested I buy some beater car (humpty) for about 3k to fill my need for a car now, and then take my time to look around throughout the winter, selling the beater when I find my perfect Vette. I thought this was STELLAR advice that I had never thought of (surprisingly) so that is what I am going to do unless a can't beat it deal comes along. That's why I just love you guys! They don't give me the option of a heart emoticon (most "guy" driven sites don't!) so I will just say I heart you all and give you three smileys!
