Finally removed the bubba system for my deck latches. Right latch was installed on left side, left was installed on right side and cables run thru the mounting location for bumpers to pull the latches in the reverse direction, due to latches on wrong side. Used rods, instead of cables. Works better when installed properly. Before and after photos.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh...Southern Engine-eering at it's finest!
You should see what my Uncle Bubba did to my deck lid!

doorgunner- what I did not show was 1) bubba broke the studs on the chrome bezels for the outside of the latch hole, so he drilled two holes in each bezel and used ordinary grade 2 7/16 inch bolts to fasten the bezels to the deck lid 2) bubba did not have a lawn mower cable long enough for the left side, so he spliced two cables together. I can only guess what he did to your car. Yours must have been the prototype at Bubba University.
Now that I can finally get my top up properly, I believe I am missing part of the frame assembly for the 68 convert. In some diagrams and parts lists, I see two side tension cables, about 12 inches long, that are supposed to be on the top frame. Bubba removed them from the car- probably to use on his bass boat. Does someone have a photo showing where they attach? I can find no hole, mounting loop or any place where it looks like they would attach. Thanks. RA
It is again one of those things that changed during the course of the 68 model year. I don't have any pictures because you can not see them with the top on, but the attached TSB from 68 explaining the changes has a couple pictures that show the mounting points.

Thanks, John. I think I will just ignore it. I thought the cables were to hold the forward bow in place, but they apparently are to hold the sides tighter to the window frame. Wonder what reaction I would get taking the car to a Chevy dealer to have a 50 year old TSB fix done?
