There is a 350/350 4 speed black 68 convertible for sale on cargurus.com. It is located in Seattle but no price was listed. Looked pretty nice in the photos.

I would also love to hear if he bought the car. Unfortunately it looks like Elvis has left the building. Like alot of these threads, plenty of advise is offered and the OP disappears. Maybe something came up and he got busy.
First, I didn't disappear. Now the short story short I didn't get the car. The long story. Went to the auction and there were a handful of guys interested in it, which worked out great. They were going over it with flashlights and everybody pointed out what was right and wrong with the car. Which in it self was a good time. I talked with the auctioneer earlier in the week and he knew the car was black and that was about it. Looking at it, it had a 427 hood and the intake and headers were wrong. Then at the sale they ran the numbers found the car wasn't numbers matching, it was originally blue, and was missing the rear storage compartments. The nose had an inch crack in it, not bad but it was there and the center console was off, not missing, it just didn't fit right. The owner came out, said he'd owned the car 3 years, the odometer didn't work, and he had it repainted. So anyway, I was the final bidder at 15K, the auctioneer asked the seller if he'd take it, and said no. He told us someone offered him 30K, he said he had 20K in it and would maybe consider 25K. At which point everybody looked a little surprised and walk away. I talked to the owner after the auction, I was going to give him my number so if he'd ever think of selling again but he was overly unpleasant ( to put it kindly) so I said goodbye to the other corvette guys and left. Like they said you'd be buying a nonmatching car that looked good INSIDE, everybody wanted to see it outside to really see how it looked but that how it goes. The good side of the story I took my dad but never told him my intent to buy the thing. So he had a good time talking with everybody about it and looking it all over. So all in all in the end my search continues, but I have learned a lot.
I do want to thank everybody on here for the advise and help.

It sounds like you made a good decision to pass on it. He was looking for too much for a car with all those issues. There are plenty of nice cars out there. Good luck with your search.
Wow you dodged a bullet there. A loser and his fake black car trying to score on you.......be certain it has proof of being a black car and has the correct born with engine IF your paying huge money .
If I'm paying big money .....for a black car......you d better be damn sure it is a factory black car . I mean repainted green and yellow vettes to black are everywhere.
A true black corvette is a real find IMO . One with documentation is what you want .
It took me four years to find the exact Camaro I wanted and I searched I guess twelve years to find my 74 BB convertible withM21 . I started very young looking .....no internet ......everybody had their cars stashed away back then.....but now with old age and Internet you can more easily track down the car of your dreams. Think about that in 1980 how difficult it was to run down a rare car.
Since you know what you want .t.hats good ..... Wait till you find original black car with the options close as possible . You'll regret not holding out in the long run....be very patient

Thanks for the info. Looked it up, if you read it, its worded funny, then if you look at Roanoke Virginia Craigslist the same car comes up for the same price. Look closely at the front license plate. There again its worded weird. That and 14,500 seems like a steal. So its either a scam or I'm missing something.
One good way to identify a scam is to Google the description in the ad and do the same with the photos....I have seen ads where the scammer just cut and pasted either the description and/or the photos from another legitimate ad. I always ask for additional photos as well.

Well that about covers it.
Saw a 69 triple Black 327 vert advertised a few months ago on the east coast that sounded like the real deal, but he was asking $50k.
Glad it didn't work out for you, in a manner of speaking. Sounds like that car was not at all what you really wanted, and as others have said, I think you would have been disappointed in the end. Good for you for sticking to your guns and not getting caught up in the moment. Take your time and find the right car for you, or at least make sure you pay an appropriate amount for you for a car that's not quite what you want.
A killer Black paint job alone is worth 10-15 grand .....if it's done correctly ......Black is the best , but also the hardest to get right ....meaning lots of body work and labor.
I would expect a really nice SB 69 ORIGINAL factory black convertible to be a mi of 30K in black and rising up depending the correctness , matching numbers , options etc.
It's pay me now or later .......so buy a green car and change the color to,black ......you lll have 30K I. It if it's done right.
Most of all, don't get auction fever. Pick the highest price in your mind that you wouldn't feel bad if it got away from you, and stick to it. Make that your top bid. That way, if it goes for a higher price, you won't feel bad, and if you get it for less you'll be happy.
