So I got a set of the aftermarket Moon Top T-Tops. And the only way I can get them on the car is to remove the guide pin that goes into the plastic bushings at the top corners by the windshield.
How important are those? Will it be OK for a leisurely Sunday drive?
They are very important! Your t-top will fly off without them! One of mine had the pin broken, which is how I found this out, luckily it didn't come all the way off. I made a new pin for it by modifying a chrome convertible top pin. All that was required was turning the mounting holes into slots. You should be able to adjust the guide pins a good bit. It will just take some playing with it.
Mine had the black plastic pins, but they were different than the one you have pictured. One of my pins was snapped, so I modified a stock hard top convertible chrome pin to replace it. It was very easy I just took a jigsaw and cut the holes into slots and then used the metal hold down you have pictured over the top to clamp it down. It is raining right now, so next time there is a nice day I will take my top off and snap a picture.
