Default 1982 Fluid Change

Picked up an 82CE with 12k miles. Changing oil, coolant, brake fluid but what about wheel bearing grease, trans fluid, and diff? The later don't meet the miles recommendation but 34 years? Believe me I'm not looking for extra work, but...?

I would check the wheel bearing play, if adjustment needed in the front, than grease them. Rear is much more complicated.
The trani and rear should be changed unless you know when it was last done.

Congrats on the CE pltmgr!

I also found a very low miles CE. -5,500 miles, original bill of sale, original window sticker, original computer order sheet to Chevrolet, and other documents.

On the advice of my indy service place who works on all my BMW's, I am having all the fluids replaced, including power steering, rear end, oil and filter, trans and trans filter, coolant, fuel filter, replacing all rubber parts including all belts, hoses, vacuum hoses, bushings, windshield wipers, thermostat and weather stripping. I am also having the four brake calipers converted to the new O-Ring system, and all the brake hoses replaced too.

After 33 years, all that rubber is going to be dry rotted to some extent. Per my service guy, you really are just doing the maintenance that would have been performed over those 33 years, and, to me, the peace of mind knowing that nothing will break down while I am cruising up in the mountains of Colorado, (which my Wife and I are doing next spring), is worth the $1,600.00 it will cost me.

Anyway, good luck with the CE!

-Ray

Make sure your mechanic checks the tire pressure too.
