Default Slow progress on my '73

I never imagined how much of a PITA it would be to insulate the interior and change out the carpet on my car.

Finally making a little forward progress over the last few days.

I'm sick of working on this interior project as nothing has been easy or simple. Every task is difficult and tedious.

I'm really anxious to get it all back together just so I can move it to another part of the garage and ignore it for a few months while I get started on one of my other many back burnered projects.

Anybody else ever feel the same way?

Cheers.

Hmm yes those symptoms sound a little familiar. At least you're making progress and it looks like you're doing a nice job. Will be worth it when completed.

Yessiree, these cars, can be really tough to work on. It's a good thing we love them, though, lying underneath it, I've had evil thoughts.

I get ragged on, for telling prospective owners, some of the downside to owning these cars. They aren't like Camaro's, Chevelle's or any other GM product, they're different animals for sure. Especially with the rust problems and the interiors, not to mention the rear suspension (which you'd rarely touch on anything else).

I'd rather have them, know what they're in for, right up front.

If you still have your original driver's side carpet. It would be good to cut the heal and bright light pads from the carpet. It will not take up much room in storage and your will have the original should you or a future owner desire to NCRS or Bloomington Gold the car in the future.

Great pictures.

Thanks,
George

Yes, it is time consuming and not easy, but you will be very proud when
you finish it. Sometimes you just have to walk away and give yourself
a little break. This is what I had to work with on my 73.

^^ That looks really good, I only hope mine turns out as well...

My big problem started about 3 days after I bought the car and got it home. I wanted to do a minor repair on the shifter console, and next thing you know, I had it stripped out to the firewall. Almost everything I touched was either broken, filthy dirty, or half *** attached with broken & brittle plastic tabs.

I purchased the car in April 2014 and have been working on the interior ever since, not to mention the engine, the hood, the transmission, A/C, and just about everything in between.

The completion of the interior will be a big milestone for me... I'm ready for a break and to move on to something else for a while.

Not to minimize the work you've done or the frustration you feel, but I just bought an '82 that also needs lots of work on the interior and drivetrain. Whenever you feel the desire to kick your car, think about me, with my garage full of other stuff (that I also value), resigned to doing all this maintenance and repair in my driveway.

I put in new carpet, shifter plate some new gauges and other things in my '73 and I feel your pain. Close quarters to work in, bad lighting, hot. I got in a fight with my wheel well carpets and they won. took the night off and went back the next day and was victorious.

The rear wheel well/arch carpet pieces that came in my kit were so poorly formed, I had to just give up on 'em too... they weren't even close.

I found some black fleece material and used it instead and I gotta say it looks pretty damn good... it conforms to the contours and curves much better and easier that the stiff, poorly molded carpet pieces.

I'll post up a few more pics once I get a little further along.

Is there a reason that owners with bad experiences don't want to note the name of the supplier in their posts? That would be a big help for those of us who need to order these types of parts in the future.

I used the complete ACC carpet set bought from Willcox and
I didn't have any problem installing the rear compartment on my 73.
I had the old ones I used as orientation to fit the wheel wells.
Maybe I was just lucky.

Yes it can be a PITA, but it is worth it in the end. I just got my 73 finished and out this fall.
