Default Looking for help with headlight dimmer issue

I broke my turn signal/headlight dimmer pivot on my 78 w/tilt/telescopic while trying to remove the lever. I'm thinking about trying to piece it back together with JB weld but I'm tentative because I'm not sure how much force/pressure is exerted on it when you activate the high beams or turn signal. Would love to know if anyone out there had a similar problem and if there are any work arounds or other suggestions out there? I've read a lot of Jim Shea's papers and I know finding a replacement anywhere but the salvage yard is next to impossible. Even there finding an early model GM vehicle with T/T isn't easy. I just spent 2 hours looking through our local lot and they few cars I found with the dimmer buldge but they were either missing the entire column or the buldge itself. Must be a common problem. Thanks in advance.

Well, You have half the tough part done..with the turn signal-dimmer pivot out..There's a knack to reinstalling all properly and occasionally one discovers another small spacer that's damaged from age.

Call Terry Sorvik here in Portland Oregon..He's a master repairman on the tilt-tele cruise steering columns..He replaced mine on my ' 78 a month or so back..He has or has access to all the parts..

He has at least two that should be correct for your car..as of a day oir so back when I spoke with him..
He'll ask you the right questions to insure he sells/send you the correct item..
His phone number is:
503-760-4593, cell# 971-678-2018
Tell him Jim w/'78 Silver Anniversary vette recommended him to you.

Glad that "Jim from Oregon" provided a name and number on dimmer pivots. Let us know how you make out.

Jim Shea, I really appreciate your experience and dissertations on the steering columns..A LOT of info to read and digest..

They are very definitive..Helped me to realize that the repair of my own tilt-telescoping turn signal issue was gonna need someone who had the skills and experience that I didn't..

One of the things that makes care & feeding of the old C3s enjoyable is the research..
Finding out how the various systems worked when new, weak points and probable failure points, and finding others who have wrestled with and overcome various issues to get their cars truly right-functioning, presentable and roadworthy once again.

No small part of that adventure is knowing WHEN one needs GOOD help..and then finding it!..Best regards, Jim in Oregon..

Turned out he didn't have any pivot assemblies available but he is sending me just the bracket, minus the black plastic piece that the lever slides into. Since the metal piece is what's broken this may work out for me.
