Default 1976 Value

My neighbor (70 yr. old woman) has a 76 Corvette survivor (66,000 miles) in her garage that I have only seen her drive once years ago. She is interested in selling so I thought I would come here to get some sort of a value. The car is yellow with black interior and a no hit body with original paint. The paint has some chips but no cracks, and the interior is in very good condition. Everything works including the power windows, and the original jack is there. The AC seems to need a charge and the automatic transmission is leaking fluid. It had been sitting for a while, so I added 2 quarts of tranny fluid and charged the battery to get it started. I drove it down the block and back and the car performed very well. I was just trying to get a value, so I could let here know what to expect.

Well, Sounds like a pretty nice one..Does it have the 350 L-48 motor or the L-82?
Auto trans complete reseal will run about 500.00 to be done RIGHT..
Probably will need the Quadrajet carb rebuilt...BYSOMEONE who knows HOW to do that properly...maybe new wires dist cap etc for good tuneup.
Probably tires and wipers, shocks?..Flush coolant pressure test radiator.A/C can be upgraded to handle new refridgerant for around 200.00.

Is she the original owner?Does she have records of work done/maint etc?
Age takes it's toll on the older ones even IF they have been garaged and have low miles..
Offer her 5K for it as it sits..You'll have twice that in it easily before it is completely roadworthy again..and that's not including paint-body work..but it's worth fixing and driving...
IF you have plenty of money and know the old gal and like her..offer her more.
Ultimately, unless one wants to flip the car, it's worth what buyer is willing to pay for it..Jim

These are 10K $ cars.
A year ago I restored a white/blk 75 L48 auto, ps, pb, original 31K mile car that sat 19 yrs in a dry garage. Paid $3,500 I have $9 K in it now did all labor lots & lots of hours nice driver & looks great from 5 feet.

Looks sweet, Chuck. Nice job, sir. I love the K-H aluminum wheels on the mid year Stingrays. Just superb.

Later,

Lee

Thanks for you replies. It is an L-48 and she has kept up on maintenance such as tires and fluids, and the rubber bumpers are in good shape. She was wanting 9K, and I just wanted to see if that was feasible. I am not interested in the car for myself, since I have a couple of C2's.

$9k is maybe a little steep with as much as it needs. I'm thinking more like $7k, as all those little things could easily add up to about $3-4k assuming you could live with the original paint, and $10k is about right for a "survivor" like that. If you couldn't live with the paint I'd have to go a little lower since you're looking at least $3k to paint it assuming it doesn't need a lot of prep work... I'm talking just scuff sanding the original paint with 600-800 and sanding out the chips, etc., and then a spray with the original color. Changing colors would obviously cost more.

A $9K asking price sounds reasonable to me.

Default My 2 cents, ....

My 2 cents, and one data point for you.

sold my 76, L82 4sp about 11 months ago for 9 even. I thought that was a pretty fair price, had a/c that actually worked, paint was a lacquer repaint, but in good condition. the interior was good too along with good mechanicals plus I had just rebuilt the front end. So, absent more info, a L48 is a little less plus an auto is less, IMHO, and you will need to do some things, so my guess would be 8 would be a fair price, assuming no major rust issues. Another thought for you, it cost about the same to fix any C3, but when complete, some C3's sell for double (or more) than others. I will always like 76's but if you have to put a lot of money into it, you will be upside down in a hurry. Few other thoughts, Dec, Jan Feb is the best time of year for a C3 buyer, so you should get a great deal. And finally check completed ebay sales to help get a sense of going sales prices.

Good luck with the hunt or helping her with the sale if that is the case, hope this might help!
