Default Another what would you pay?

I'm looking at this 79 Silver L48. 55,000 mi. Car seems to be in decent driver shape. Paint is a little faded on drivers front fender. The rest of the car seems decent. Under hood looks rather original and well kept. Starts up well after having sat for a week when I looked at it. Didn't get to driving it yet. Birdcage through the A pillars looks really good. Condition of frame and under car also very good. Note: engine smokes lightly at initial start up. I think it's just valve seals but cant tell for certain.

So, what would you pay? (any feedback would be useful too)

My guess would be 8000 to 10,000. I wouldn't expect it to sell for much less. What is he asking?

Hagerty's price guide lists is at $4800 for fair condition, $11,600 for good. Maybe somewhere between leaning to the higher side if all looks good?

Take the cost of a valve job off the asking price and go with that if theres no other issues.

Worth taking a closer look. The car looks nice, all things considered.

Good luck.

Is it the color that you like ?is it the year that you like?If its just like what you like then you will be happy what ever you pay.I would look at several cars before I bought .But when you find that car that checks all the right boxes you will pay more and still be happy.his price is fair .

Well, as you might deduce by my avatar, yes that's just what I'm looking for. I've seen about 10 other cars so far, only one other that has the body style and color I am looking for. I think I have a good feel for what's good and whats not by this point. There are another 10 or so I still want to take a look at. I do agree, that being the example that I am looking for has less bearing on the price. I do like to get this forum's experience when it comes to valuation though.

def worth a closer look, imo. you'll prob need to budget some amount for surprises, the biggest issue i see is the faded paint. how important is it to you: leave as-is, spray just that area, or the whole car?

seems a fair price, but little things can quickly add up to about the "good" condition value. am not sure if they could be optioned separately, my 79 has f/r spoilers. antenna should go up/down ( i think) unless the aftermarket radio wasn't wired for it. ac upgraded from the r12? no howl from the diff?

Brother it's worth however much your willing to part with...there are always regrets but in the end it's fun to have and drive. Good luck.
