Hey. Stripping my interior for recarpeting and speakers. Found a nice size hole next to where the trans tunnel/armrest hits the back wall where the deck is above. Are there supposed to be holes here on a stock car? I'm guessing not. This car had some weird **** going on with it from PO's bringing it to shops to be "Restored".
Bonus pic is a fatass plate that I guess the shop installed when someone fell through the fiberglass. LOL
Do you mean the vertical gap between the tunnel and the back panel? If so that's normal, leads into the area behind the panel where the jack-compartment is
Here's a shot from the back side, you can see where the cables on mine run through there (red and black)
As for the hole in the floor.. who knows, maybe hit some road debris at some point and it cracked the floor?
BTW, adding the year of your car to your profile is always a good thing, helps when trying to figure things out
I believe that first pic with the hole is where the rear of the console is secured with a fastener. Should go through to your storage compartment.

Ahhh, your probably right on which hole he's talking about. In that case it is for the bolt that holds the rear of the e-brake console (at least in the older ones it is.)
The bolt head can be seen in that pic I posted

Mooser and vettefred- You are right- that is where the metal reinforcement for the parking brake armrest has a weld nut to fasten and secure it to the back panel. I have my 68 convert all apart to work on the wiring for the parking brake switch and other annoying things the PO did to the interior panels. I'm learning more about Corvette interior panels than I ever wanted to know.
Yep. Was thinking of the vertical gap there. Was just worried for a moment because I was going to jack up the body to replace old body mounts and wanted to make sure that its secure there because I had my doubts.
Also had no idea about the heat shield being factory. it looked like a slapdash job to me with rivit centers all strewn about the interior and painted straight over and some even poking about an inch out of the top of the rivits.
Guess I'm worried about nothing. So thus I sojurn straight onto the land of carpet.
