Default 1968 Underbody Splash Shield

Quick question - is GM part number 3963112 the correct passenger side outer splash shield for a '68?? I know GM 3947977 is correct for the driver's side. Thanks in advance.

Passenger side shield was 3947978 in 1968. 3963112 is the 1969 part number for the passenger side shield.

Thank-you, John for clearing that up for me - much appreciated. I do believe they were white in color. Correct me if I am wrong. My '68 is missing them.

Can anyone who owns a'68 post a pic of these shields installed?? Thanks.

When was your car built? Several different shielding configurations were used during the 68 model year. The white plastic shields you are referring to were only used on late production cars.

If I remember correctly, my late March built 68 coupe had only metal shields. These were the dumbest things to put on a car. If you actually drove the car, the fiberglass underneath them got wet, held the moisture in it and rusted everything up. Lou.

Your car did not have the white plastic shields originally. They didn't come into production until about May/June of 68. Your car would have used a triangular metal shield instead. There would be one for each side. They attached to the frame rails and a bracket under your feet on the floor board. I don't have a good picture of them installed but you get the idea from the one attached. Your early build car won't have the insulation show in the picture.

I don't believe the triangular shields are reproduced, so you'll have to look for used if you want to go back to the cars original configuration.

I recently disassembled a December, 1968 built 1969 Corvette and the part numbers on the white plastic shields are 3947977 and 3947978. These parts are available to anyone interested.

I might be interested. Ive got an 68 built 69 that I've currently got the body off - at some point the shields went missing.
