Default Interior Mirror Fell Off - '82

Like the subject line says, my interior mirror fell off. I thought this would be an easy fix, but the repair kits at the parts houses say to only use the adhesive with a metal button. Don't know if the mirror I have is original, but the small plate that broke loose from the windshield is plastic. So what's my best option here? Just clean up the windshield and order a repro mirror?

You should be able to get a kit that has the glue as well as a new metal button from the local parts stores.

That's what I did.
Got it from O'Reilly's.

O'Reilly's was where I was looking yesterday. Didn't see any kits with the button, but I'll check again. That would be a lot better than buying a whole new mirror. What I don't understand is, if you can't use the glass adhesive on a non-metal button, why do they sell mirrors with plastic buttons?

I'm going to post the links for glue for the mirror and mounting plate.
Not sure if the link will work.
This is the adhesive I used on my mirror and its been 2 years with no problem.

Here's a link to one of their mounting plate not sure if it's the one you need or not.
If I was you I would take the mirror with you to get the correct on.

I never had any luck with mirror adhesive, even with a thorough cleaning. After a day in the hot sun, it would be laying on the floor. JB weld did the trick, no more problems after that.

I've installed more mirrors than I can count. Buy a kit with mounting tab. Clean glass thoroughly (razor blade, I use brakleen on a shop towel after that, then wipe clean with a different dry shop towel), use included activator/cleaner, put one drop of glue on the tab, hold it there for a minute. Let glue cure for 24hrs in warm conditions, or longer if its cold, then hang mirror. Never had one come off with this procedure.

If there is any old glue left, you use too much glue, or don't let the glue cure before hanging, it will pop back off shortly.

Or, you could take the car to a local auto glass shop and most of them will repair it for free as advertisment. I have taken in several for this and was never charged. Just brough them my glass work in the future. Good luck.
