ok, I see on the passenger side it has three wires, that are attached to small clips that go thru the plastic ring and I guess when the switch is depressed it makes the contact with the three wires.

"when the switch is depressed " blue- just the opposite. the door ajar switch and courtesy light switches are "open" when they are depressed with the door closed on them. When the door opens, the internal spring on the little plunger expands and closes the switch, makes contact and completes the circuit (which for these two switches is the ground circuit).
Going from memory, but I'll add that I think one of the wires (white?) is for the door ajar and the other (blue?) is for the alarm system. Black is ground.
ok, Thanks for the info, now I can try to fix this switch
I replaced my door ajar switch last summer. It's helpful to know there is a small access panel in the rear well wheel. Remove the rear wheel and pull the panel and you get some access that I found helpful.
Door Ajar switches are not part of the factory alarm system. They are door ajar only.
Alarm system uses the front door jamb switches.
My door ajar switches (the ones at the back of the door) have a white, black and blue wire. Per the wiring diagram, the black is ground and the light blue goes to the door ajar warning light. I thought the white wire was for the alarm system. This is a '72.
