Heat shields
My car is an april build which I believe is fairly late. I cant find any mounting studs for the white plastic heat shields on the firewall. Does anyone know when those were implemented?

I have an April built L71 car with it's original engine. Block was cast March 8, engine assembled April 8, car completed April 18th.

Alternator
Worked with my dad to redo the alternator you did the alternator even though I won't need it for another year probably. Still feels good to do something.

I did some things....
Picked up my engine recently.
Taped it up
Made a faux paint booth at my dads
Made it orange
Took it home and tossed the flywheel
And clutch
And pressure plate on
Got the trans in and the engine is sitting as intended.
I put the intake and carbs on because I have no self control. I'll still need to install them correctly.
all in all a pretty monumentus weekend for the 68 roadster. I think I'm ready to put the body back on the frame and send it away to the body guy.
Before I do, anything I'm missing before I get 6 friends to come by for a lift?

WowDuff, I don't blame you for getting excited. That's a BIG motor and it looks great. I agree that you would need a few BIG guys to lift that sucker. Keep it up, we are all watching your progress.

Clutch
I feel I should test clutch operation does anyone have a slick way of doing so the way it sits? I'm thinking of hooking up the z-bar and seeing if I can disengage it. I just don't want to do it all over again with the body on if I run into a problem.

Outstanding work! It's been 50 years since I installed a clutch assembly.
I'm thinking.....mount a temporary crossmember a few feet aft of the trans. tailhousing....install the driveshaft so that the aft end of it rest on the temp. crossmember.
Put the trans. in 1st gear to make it easy to feel when the clutch releases.
While you SLOWLY apply force to the Zbar to release the clutch, have a friend try to rotate the driveshft with both hands.
Tell him to let you know the instant the driveshft starts to rotate.
This will give you an idea how how much the pedal has to be pushed to release the clutch, and also will verify that the clutch IS releasing.
BUT....I could be w-w-wrong.

Manifold
I got the exhaust manifolds put in place today. I was able to get the studs in finger tight button kind of wanting to avoid over tightening them and cracking the manifold.
I hit him with a cast blast high heat and I think they look really good. Thanks to the other four members giving feedback on the transmission shifter mount. I've got the holes drilled for it and now I've got some more work to do!
The fun part about all of this is I get to take Parts off of the shelf and put them on the car which creates more shelf and storage space!

It's looking great. Did you check the clutch releasing yet?
