C3 repair injuries (to owners)
Has anyone started a running record for injuries incurred while working on your C3? Last night, as the slipping wrench caused a sharp metal cut and puncture through a coat, sweater and shirt on my right arm and through work gloves on my right hand, I mentally started to add up the injuries so far. About six minor cuts, even using gloves, on hands with the worst being a shiner, forehead laceration and broken glasses when the wrench slipped off the front brake caliper mounting bolt causing me to pitch forward and smash my face into the bumper. Love those metal bumper C3s. ;(

I recently cut my bald-*** head on the edge of my hooker headers.
I was replacing my strut arms and needed to see the shock mounts for some reason, so I was sticking my head in the narrow aperature between the knuckle and the front edge of the fender well without paying attention to the protruding exhaust discharge.
I did it on both sides, which hurt my pride a bit.
I was rewarded with two odd-looking ARCHED gouges that oozed blood for the next couple of days. I got a few questions about them.
My wife now requires that I wear either a ball or stocking cap while working on my car. That was her concession to requiring me to wear a hardhat.

Lots of cuts, one serious on the forehead. A blue eye (wrench slipped) and most recently a double fractured nose (almost up to torque aaaalmost and the wrench slips of the bolt). Hospital staff thought it was very funny breaking your own nose with a wrench

Why is it always funny when the injury is to someone else?

The thumb nail on my right hand is now a weird shade of black and blue and the tip is numb cause of the hydraulic ram slipping while changing the u-joints in my half shafts. Smashed er good. Ran outside and stuffed it in the snow for a while .That was 2 days ago. Still hurts !

Awhile back 'clutchdust' tried to stop a rolling C3 and it rolled onto his ankle. Pics were very graffic.

I don`t really want to KNOW how many pounds of skin or gallons of blood I`ve donated to this car!

I precut myself. Before I work on the car I bang my head, put some rust in my eyes and then scrape my hand on concrete. I try to get some blood flowing, this way I am ahead of the game. And I always have some paper towels and masking tape for that unexpected cut.

I remember this one and it was pretty ugly. Seems like there were a bunch of pics that hurt me to look at.

i am always healing,
last bad one was ,hammered my thumb, trying to get the ball joint off, there is a bump on it that never going away, and the smashing made it bleed for a few days

i was using a wire brush attachment on my drill to clean up some POR-15 that was causing the nut to bind. neighbor came out of her house screaming at her kids and when i looked up......the damn wire brush end caught my glove and shredded my pointer finger all they way down to my palm. I'm all good now, minor scars

I took the curved end of a crowbar to the forehead while prying on the upper control arm cross shaft to slip in an alignment shim. The baseball cap I was wearing did not prevent a W-shaped gash.

Almost 3 years ago, I gave myself a "mallet finger" sprain while replacing my convertible's carpet. Man was that miserable. Mallet finger is basically a severing of the ligament that holds the end joint of your finger straight. My finger was splinted for approx 8 weeks and to this day, my finger does not have the same flexibility as the same finger on the opposite hand. Sore still today too. I'm told the limited movement and stiffness/soreness will be permanent.
Moral of this story is that when tucking carpet into the corners and crevices, use karate chops with the side of your hand instead of chopping with the ends of your fingers. Doh!

The injuries are not just limited to working on Corvettes. I was in the car repair business for over 25 years and had so many injuries that I couldn't count them all even though I used all safety equipment . Even with eye protection I made many trips to the eye doctor to have things removed from both eyes, had a two inch gash sewn up on my arm from a grinding wheel explosion , and the worst being a cutting wheel exploding and a one inch piece burying itself in my face which had to be surgically removed in the emergency room . It's a small price to pay for having fun !

The unfortunate part of this hobby is that you can get involved in situations that could end your life. No hobby is worth that.

Knock on wood...So far other than some minor scrapes and being sore from rolling around under it all day I can say I haven't really been hurt or had any accidents. I still have lots to do, so I'm sure I'll get my beauty scars eventually.
