Need a little help on what parts to buy when replacing my windshield. Would like to purchase all new parts, I guess you could say the trim parts before I have my windshield removed and a new one installed. I would hate to go back with a new windshield and some of the old parts get broken or whatever that would keep the new installation from happening. If you guys could give me an idea of what parts I would need to get before I have the existing windshield replaced I would appreciate it. I would like to have all new parts to go back in, and my luck would be if I didn't get the new trim parts, that something would probably get broken while removing the old windshield, so I would rather be safe than sorry, so If someone could give me an idea of what parts I would need to purchase and from a good source I certainly would appreciate it. the car is not a restore project or anything like that, it is in great shape and it is a driver for sure, just got a bad windshield and want to replace it. It is the original, so I would imagine taking it out would probably cause something to break in the line of the trim. Thanks Again. Jimmy
someone at the local corvette shop told me the glass had to be perfectly shimmed(something about the windshield frame may not be perfect from factory and need some kind of stuff to even it out) they wanted something near 700 bucks to do it on a 79!! I called safelite. they did it for 240 bucks with a lifetime guarantee of no leaks. i requested for them to remove the windshield and come back in a week so I had plenty of time to restore the frame and trim mounts. I couldn't have asked for better service.
i do just about everything on this car myself but I couldn't find a new windshield for less than 140 bucks. for an extra 100 I didn't have to deal with any of the removal, glue or glass....I couldn't pass that up.
