Vapor canister test
Thanks
I've only done this once. If I don't smell gas in the garage I figure the system is working.
I check the system by first checking the vapor separator at the left side of the tank… you should hear it 'rattle' when you shake it.
I then check that all the hoses are clear and not collapsed. There's a small 'restrictor' inserted in the rubber line from the hard line to the canister inlet nipple.
I then check the hoses from the canister to the carb; both large and small.
Then I pried off the cap which allowed me to see that the rubber seal is in place in the cap and not torn and the spring and spring retainer are in place.
I then use a wire to insure the purge holes aren't clogged up.
I get no smell of gas from the charcoal so figure it's not saturated with gas so doesn't need to be replaced.
I then pry off the bottom lid to make sure the 'pancake' filter i
saturated either.
Done.
As I said I've only felt the need to do the once while I was restoring the system…. but would have to look at it more often if I were smelling gas.
