Default How Much $$ Do You Have Into Your Vette?

Hey all,

Getting ready to make some major suspension/interior upgrades to my 78 (already have a brand new motor/700R4 and am in the middle of a paintjob). Looking at how much I'm planning to spend, I'm starting to wonder if I'm maybe a little crazy to put that much into it lol.

This got me thinking and wondering how much $$ you all have into your C3's. I know there's a similar thread on the C1/C2's and some of those guys have CRAZY money into those cars, but they also seem to be worth quite a bit more at the end of the day. Just wondering how much you guys have into your cars, if you think you could ever get that back out of it, and if you care lol. Let's hear it!

I'll start. Luckily, I got the corvette free, as my Grandma was the original owner and handed it off to me when she was done with it. Unfortunately, it also happened to need a new motor, new transmission, a new paintjob, and basically a whole new interior at that point.

Right now, I'm probably $6-7k into it with a new motor/transmission (heavily modified, not even close to stock). If I were to redo the interior and the suspension the way I want, I wouldn't be surprised if I was into her for $15-20k all said and done. Being a 78 nothing special standard coupe and being totally modified, I have no idea what she might fetch on the open market, though I'll likely never get rid of her. Maybe I am crazy...

As of right now with the purchase price of the car I am around $9000. This will go up this year with vortec heads, cam, and whatever else.

All in including purchase price I am at $10k-$11k. That is in the current stage. I just set the body back on the frame over Christmas after being apart for 5 years. Everything is new or rebuilt. Now just need interior and paint. I'll never sell it.

$12,000 including purchase price/trying to finish body work so my former basket case can go to the paint booth.

I have no clue, and hopefully it will stay that way
One of my biggest fears is I will get killed by a bus on the way home and my wife will sell all of my stuff for what I told her it was worth.

If I had to estimate, I would say about 25 grand for my 69 restomod project. I don't plan on selling it anyway so just having fun with it so one of my sons can have it one day. The other son will get the 71 which has bigger plans than the 69 price wise.

Our 71 coupe is about half done, and a rough guess is about $12,000 so far. But I`m with Hooah.... it really doesn`t matter, because I don`t plan to ever sell it. And besides, just look at the smile on my youngest boy`s face.... THAT makes it worth every penny no matter what the total turns out to be!

Including purchase price, I think I'm in my 77 for about 10k. Still have body work to do. Plus I'm planning on a C4 suspension upgrade, a 383 motor, and a 6 speed if I can find one on my budget. I am on the slow path, but I'm not planning on selling either.

Way more than I could sell it for, but not selling so it doesn't matter. Hobbies cost money.

Including the recent convertible conversion and softtop, about $11 K. They don't call me lowbuck for nothing.

1972 coupe....4 speed small block with AC...NOM, painted black at some point and it desperately needs a respray.....I got $15,058 as of my latest purchase of 6 cans of gloss black paint for the frame.....That includes tax, tag and title as well as every penny I have spent down to each nut and bolt....Yea I'm kinda **** about keeping up with it, got a nice spread sheet going....But I have had a blast working on it.... Could I get that back out of it...? Yea I think I could or at least close...But it's not for sale.

I'm probably into my '68 around $3k so far and I have the frame out for restoration and the engine getting rebuilt soon which will tack another $6k on to that. And a whole lot more to come. It helps that the car was free.

I'm into my '75 about $5,500 including almost a whole new cars worth of fiberglass. this one needs the front clip and rear deck swapped to fix fiberglass issues, a paint job and some engine and carb tuning to get back in great running shape.

1970 bought 4 years, 2 months ago.

$7k purchase price.

$13k into projects since:
--radiator
--COMPLETE engine (only re-used block, crank, and pistons)
--Header/sidepipe system with STS baffles
--ignition
--carb
--clutch
--u-joints
--COMPLETE rear suspension assemblies and offset trailing arms
--rear tires
--LED lights all around

I'm not even remotely close to done. I may never be done. I shutter to think how much money I'll have into it when I give it to my son.

But it's so much FUN!

I'm roughly at 6k including the purchase of the car. I'm almost done with my body off rebuild. It will be a really nice car soon. electric headlight conversion, refurbished interior, body off resto, 383 stroker, side pipes with sts baffles, and composite rear mono for around 7k. I dont think I could find that with 6k

So...............basically.....we are buying projects/assembling them for about $4 per pound.

And to finish them.........add another $2 to $4 per pound for a good daily driver.

Paid $2,500 for an 81 with a burned out engine compartment. So far I have spent another $6,500. I estimate about another $6,000 to finish it, but we shall see. That would bring the total to about $15K. I'm not too worried about what it's worth when done, I'm doing it because I enjoy the restoration part of it. There's a certain amount of satisfaction one gets, doing as much of the work as you can. Driving it will just be icing on the cake, so to speak.
