I'm having trouble getting my 390hp engine to start. Installed new pulse amp, coil, pickup coil and ignition switch. Engine wont fire till I release the key while cranking. It also wants to backfire through the headers occasionally. Could it be the starter solenoid? Runs fine after it starts. Real pain to start most of the time.
It starts right up when its hot if you start it within a few seconds but when it sits 5 minutes it take several times on the starter pretty hard to get it to fire.
[QUOTE=Nowhere Man;1591702102]Sounds like your timming is off[/QUO
Tried factory timing of 4 degrees and the car wont hardly run at all. I read this was timing setting when the car had the original air pollution equipment on it. That equipment is long gone. I've tweaked timing all over the place but settled at 34 to 36 total timing and the car runs fine after it starts.
Jumper cables were installed backwards and this burned the pickup coil in the distributor out so I'm wondering if this also damaged the solenoid so that it wont fire in spinning mode.
