Have any of you purshased the overlay as opposed to the entire dash? It is quite a money saver if it will cover this damage.
my dash is in perfect shape But I purchased a carpeted dash mat that attaches with velcro that was made to fit my 78..It eliminated the glare line for me driving on bright days...replacement of the original dash pad will be expensive and take a good interior tech to install properly..
was'nt expensive..can't recall who i got it from but one of the reliable corvette aftermarket outfits..jim

My 68 has really bad glare on cloudty days as well, but cheap polarized sun glasses does a good job on eliminating it. Maybe I'll look at a carpet piece for those days so I'm not wearing sunglasses when its cloudy

I replaced the whole dash pad on my 80, same as yours. It was a lot of work. But looks good. What I didn't like was any where something needed to be screwed in to, center gauges and speedo housing went into the padding. So once you unscrewed it it was basically stripped. Some guys here used the overlay and it looks good. If I had seen those first I would have used them. Do a search something will turn up.
Here's mine I installed a few years ago. Works good and looks good. Fit was pretty decent.
There IS some trimming that needs to be done. Took me a weekend to do it but I took my time and a few breaks.
You may also think about getting a can or two of dye to freshen up the surrounding areas.
Thanks procketus. Does it glue down. How about a closer pic. Are unhappy with it? Will it cover my issue.
You're welcome.
Yes it glues down. Strong stuff. The screws for the windshield defroster also help hold it down. The gauge panel and the speedo/tach also hold it. The one issue I had was fitting the headlight switch bezel thingy back on. A little bit of massaging and it went on, tight, but it's on.
Yes, I'm happy with it. The one way to tell at a quick glance that it's an overlay is the dash speakers. Where the covers should be is molded in. So if you need new speakers, install them first.
Yes it will cover your issues. The overlay covers the WHOLE dash.
If you get one, just take your time and be patient. Be prepared to put it on and take it off SEVERAL times for trimming. Trim a little at a time and it'll work out. Pay attention to how it fits in all areas and how you can move it around in spots.
