Default Fan clutch

I'm restoring my 1974 and does have AC, can I do away with the original 7 blade fan and fan clutch? And replace with a flex fan and spacer? Or do I have go back with a fan clutch. Please advise.

Of course you can, question is, do you really want to?

The steel fan and thermo clutch is the best way to go. Remember, it free-wheels when not needed.

You are likely to be making a mistake with the flex fan and are better off with the stock set up.

Stock fan blows copious amounts of air. I would keep it,

Flex fans can break.

Depends on the Flex Fan you chose.. the old cheap aluminum version, NO.. But a more modern Stainless Steel Flex is rated for about 9000 rpm, I don t think you can hurt it. And tho a Clutch fan releases at higher rpm, , there is still 20-40 % drag depending on which you use. Standard, HD or Severe Duty.. I run a SS Flex on my 525 HP Stroker with air and Auto and it gets 112 * here ... never had any overheating issues even in slow summer traffic with A/C blasting. The blades need to be at least 1/2 inside shroud....... BTW.. I use the Flex-A-Lite SS High RPM fan , I just looked , its actually rated at 10,000 rpm... theres no one on this forum with a Corvette that can break it.
