I guess the first thing I need to know is what is "starring" and where can it occur? The only familiarity that I have with starring is the star that appears on the hood if the hood is closed on the air filter wing nut. Yes, this is what the hood looked like on my 72 when I bought it. I replaced the wingnut with a regular nut as it was the wings on the wingnut that caused the starring. It still worries me that the air filter is so close to the hood. Is there something I should do besides replacing the wingnut?
Also, I am wondering it starring happens in other places and how to avoid it?
replace the air cleaner? is it stock? is your intake manifold stock or aftermarket? how are your motor mounts? engine rocking in the frame when you rev it?

Those are great questions. Exactly the kind of direction I need. Thanks, I will check out all of those issues.
If you have an after market intake with you may want to consider going with a lower profile air cleaner and filter. They call it a drop down air cleaner.
