Here are the numbers in front of the passenger side head.... V0525CGC 11J203468 Cast number 3970010
I know that it's not numbers matching but I would still like to know as much info about the engine as possible. I know it's been rebuilt / remanufactured because there is a tag located on the driver's side of the block (see pic below) no company name. It also has the over-heat buttons on the freeze plugs.
So far I have found that 3970010 means a 350, the CGC is the suffix code and is either from a 71 El Camino 350 auto trans 245 HP with a 2 barrel carb or it's a standard trans police / taxi 245 HP with a 2 barrel carb. I can't believe they even made standard trans police or taxis.
Is the above correct....? If so any way for me to tell which vehicle this engine came out of maybe from a plant code or such....?
Google 11J203468. That's the VIN derivative of the vehicle your engine was originally installed in. My hunch says 11 are Chevrolet and year of production, 71 or 81 (probably 71). J is the assembly plant code. The remaining digits are the consecutive unit number of the vehicle.

From what I could find, The ' 11J' is a '71 Chevy built in Jainesville, 203468 is last six of the vin. V0525CGC is Flint, May 25th, 350/245 2bbl, th350.
>193k Full size passenger cars, wagons, and >71k pickup trucks built in Janesville for 1971 MY.

I think if the numbers are correct then this has to be either a police or taxi engine because as far as I can tell no El Camino's were built at the Jainesville plant.
Does anyone recognize the remanufacture tag or have any clue what company used tags like this....?
Also what do the numbers to the right of the freeze plug mean....They are upside down above the oil filter....?
