replaceing the carpet in storage area of my 74 so who makes the best fitting 80/20 loop black carpet sets for these c3 corvettes???? only want to do this once lol
thanx tony
Well, Corvette America does not make the carpet they list in their catalog. I ordered a complete set for my 1982 CE from CA, it arrived, with other interior items, INSIDE AN ACC Carpeting box, INSIDE a Corvette America box. My sales rep at CA told me they contract certain items out, and ACC is their carpet go-to.
By the way, once it relaxed in warm air out of the box, it fit in very nicely and looks good. I'll try to photograph it tomorrow depending on the light.

I helped ACC fix most of their molds last year and they are the only brand I'll install in my shop. They are on sale for 20 percent off on our website right now too!
FWIW: there are only two carpet manufacturers, Al Knoch and ACC. Choice is yours.
Agreed, only two places have the molds to make C3 carpet, price is the same. (give or take sales) Who is the best? Don't know of anyone who has compared them side by side.
My vote is for AK, because they where willing to customize it.

I can get ACC to do custom carpets too..
I also sell AK carpet, I just prefer ACC because of the work we did with them on correcting the molds.. Oh, btw, there was three manufacturers up until a week ago... Pro choice carpet (MA) just went away the other day. ACC bought out their molds.
Automotive carpet density, including floor mats, is graded by 'ounce weight'. In a past assignment at the car manufacturer I work for, I was the accessories planning manager and spent hundreds of hours with carpet suppliers. A lower weight, usually 13 oz. grade was installed in most entry level cars. We called it a `potato chip' because it would not retain its natural form in the cold winter mos., but it was the affordable industry option. It was like a heavy felt with very little nap. The intermediate vehicles in this class had 16 oz. carpet and so on up where luxury cars had 22-28 oz. weight carpet. (I disregarded some carpet manufacturers' inflated weight claims until our engineers tested them). There were two different carpet fiber materials at the time, one of which wore better compared to an identical weight carpet. The weight of the base OE carpets also mirrored the carpet weight of the rest of the vehicle carpet.
In at least the case of my '82, and probably other years, the OE carpet was apparently about 22oz. I would estimate the standard set of ACC carpet to be about 14-16 oz. on the high side. So, unless you upgrade to the "plush" that ACC makes but our C3 supplier partners do not stock (you have to Google search it - but it is available), be prepared that, no matter how beautiful the standard ACC new carpet looks, you are downgrading from the quality of your OE carpet. I'm attaching a photo that compares the standard ACC carpet which our supplier partners sell, and the `plush' which actually matches the original `82 carpet. I paid for the extra weight because I wanted to keep the car entirely original. I called one of our traditional vendors that supports this forum and was advised that the lower demand did not justify stocking it, which makes logical business sense.
