Now you've got my curiuosity going! I see it was for 1977. Was this for a 1977 C3?

No, it was for my painfully slow '68 roadster. I was new at the whole "cutting the light" concept, too.

Nothing like a day at the track. Hits all the senses. My favorite is taking a friend that has never been. That first nitro bath and the now gone clutch burp in the pro pits were always great entertainment!

This may be a better fit on a vintage drag racing forum but maybe someone here will recall Rosen Burnouts! Found these in the trailer, I thought they were cool.

I've had access to the Lucas Oil Top fuel tent for a few years now.

At Pomona last year I took my son for the 1st time. At 21 he was a noob.

While we were eating most of us got up and moved to the rear. I told my son to stay there. He came flying out with his eye watering. LOL no-longer a virgin.

1st pass he jump a little and had a huge grin on his face. He was hooked. Waiting for Sonoma this year and he is already making sure we have VIP access.

Don't know if you've been there, done that, but if you haven't been to the Famoso dragstrip in Bakersfield for either the March Meet or the Hot Rod Reunion in October, both are spectacular events!

I took a picture of the 3 compartments behind the seats and now can't find them. I'll ask the question anyway. All 3 hatch doors open but 2 have no compartment inside. The passenger side has a thick steal box that must weigh 50 pounds or more. Looks to be a custom made battery box. I guess it's so thick as to add weight? Are the boxes available? Strange to look down and see the rear end and ground!

Btw the custom battery box is now out and you won't see it in the pic. Just trying to find a pic for reference as I must have deleted the ones I wanted to post.

Thanks for any help.

Maybe they aren't there to make room for the pumpkin on the rear end

On original cars, the battery box and the Jack storage compartment are fiberglass molded into the floor of the body. Then there is a fiberboard flocked tray that goes in on top of the Jack storage to use for extra storage. There are some guys / vendors on eBay that sell the pieces cut out from parted out cars that can be glassed in. However, as someone mentioned above, they may not fit with that rear end. Attached is a photo of the compartments.
Regards,
Jim

Looks like a Dana 60, used in Mopars and many models of trucks from all eras.

Looks like the battery is mounted on the passenger side....? I would have never guessed the spare tire carrier would still be intact.

I dunno why they would want to add weight to a race car. My wild guess would be to protect the battery from heat or possibly fire, given a race cars activities.

That is most definitely a Dana 60. Interesting how they added leaf springs with "slapper bars" and rear pre-load configuration. More photos please!

Here is a picture of the steel battery box. HEAVY, in the pic it's been dropped to the trailer below. My guess is it was to add weight to the rear of the car.
