I live 45 minutes away, so getting to the show is a snap. Over the years I have seen some changes, and like everything it seems.....it's not like in the old days...
Remember the beer,...and Budweiser girls?....
If you've never been,...I'd say give it a go. There are still lot's of cars, parts, venders, and if it doesn't rain....a great place to get a tan. Almost no shade, and usually it's 95 degrees in August.
One thing that kind of pissed me off. I went last year specifically to buy an interior for my vette. The vender didn't even have display items in the color I needed. Ordered just like as if I went online buying without actually seeing the goods.......I did get a show price, so it saved me a few bucks.

Yeah since Chip died it's got way more family friendly that's for sure.

This is annoying, but it's not the vendors' fault. Many of the states are charging vendors sales/use tax on all their sales, so they have responded by not taking a lot of stuff and just taking orders at the shows, and providing various discounts and free shipping.

So why not bring samples of everything,...and "sell" nothing. No tax that way, and the guy wanting to buy something sees it first hand. I honestly wasn't planning on carrying the whole interior around with me all day anyway. Would have paid with credit, and had it delivered to my house.
Just sayin'
How many guys here bought their sweetie a diamond online?.....without seeing it first..........
I've been going for more than 15 years and it's definitely worth the trip. As most have said, yes, it's C5,6 and 7 heavy, but you'll see plenty of important and significant classics to make it worth the trip. We just put our cars in the fun display and then kinda hang out all weekend. I'll stroll the vendors, while my buddies, all late model guys, check out cars in the fun field, manufacturers midway or even the car for sale corral.
For the past 8-10 years we've been staying in Chambersburg, about 25 minutes South of Carlisle on I-81. (We're coming up from I-95 south of Virginia.) We've seen an explosion of new hotels and restaurants shoot up during this time. Rooms are excellent and reasonable and in 2 minutes you can be on the interstate and 25 minutes in Carlisle. Heck it can take 20 minutes to get from a hotel on the other side of Carlisle, to the Fairgrounds at times.
We typically pick a hotel off of Exit 16 in Chambersburg and get off at Exit 48 in Carlisle. We circle North and West around Carlisle (past the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center) to The Harrisburg Pike (Route 11) and head South/West to the fairgrounds. From the hotel to Gate 7 takes about 25 minutes if you leave the hotel by 7-7:30. There will always be traffic on the Harrisburg Pike during events, but we bypass most of it and arrive early.
I've been attending since the late 80's and as many have said things have changed over the years, but the people and the cars are still there and there is always something new to see and buy.
I go for the Spring event and stay in Chambersburg about 30 minutes away and easy to get to Carlisle. There is a great craft beer place if you like that and lots of places to eat.I hope to make my first Corvette trip this year. it's about a 4 hour drive for me.
I love corvettes and have three of them but I'm tired of shows and swaps. How many of the same kind of cars can you look at and eventually not get tired of looking at them. Thank God for computer shopping and all the available reproductions. No more junk for me.
Now that they expanded the show to Thursday (the old set-up day) will the new set-up day be Wednesday? The reason I ask, I see the gate times for Thursday is 10a-6p. I used to come on set-up day for a quick walk around, so I'm trying to decide whether it would be worth coming on Wednesday.
I have gone a few times and parked in Corvette parking and that was ok, but I wanted to be more "in the show". So last year I parked on the inside and was disappointed that no matter how early you went you had a very hard time getting a good parking spot because someone left a $5 lawn chair in the spaces for what seemed like a week ahead of time. I think it should be first come first serve, you should not get to roll in at 10am because someone has a spare lawn chair.
