So last night I had a water pump handgranade while doing a burnout with my 7 y/o nephew and 5 y/o niece in the car. As steam is boiling from under the hood my 7 y/o nephew looks at me and nonchalantly says "Smoke! That ain't good". Even thought I was hurting inside I just had to laugh. Smart kid...
On a side note my 3 year old, under 5k miles, Chinese piece of crap water pump literally just came apart. Luckily it didn't tear anything up other than spraying my engine bay with antifreeze.
Sorry to hear about that. I'm sure others are curious to see any pics you may have as well. 2nd time in a week or so! - unbelievable. I wonder if it's from the same source as Member 13611 ?
Sorry about your water pump, I had a similar experience many years ago.
I installed a Stewart water pump about 20 years ago, still on there, still working fine. It was a good investment.
It was probably a Stew-wort. ("High quality" Chinese replica water pump)
Seriously though, that's really pretty scary. Especially after reading those 2 recent posts about bad water pumps and seeing those pics of the failure.
Hopefully that manufacturer doesn't make rims, gas tanks, and steering wheels!

This is exactly why I won't install china pumps in my shop.
About six years ago we installed one a customer supplied and it blew the front neck out in six weeks just as pictured, and of coarse trying to convince the customer we did nothing wrong was impossible.
(We will no longer install supplied parts in our shop now).
If we replace one we either rebuild the original or only use GM casting rebuilt pumps.

That's what sucks the worse for you cats in the biz,
I recall a top end ACVW man in town who was telling a customer his plug wires and a few other parts were garbage and he wouldn't tune the car unless he allowed him to or installed real bosch stuff,
At first the customer thought he was trying to gouge him then relaxed and said okay go ahead and install the bosch stuff but I just bought that other stuff it's new can you sell it to another customer,
Scooter says, no, if it's not good enough for your car it's not good enough for any car...
Customer was pissy and butt chapped over it.
I noticed a lot of shops are cracking down on customer supplied parts too.

These days Bats.. you can't. You and I both know the labor involved in doing a replacement pump and we ate it and the new pump. My guys are paid by the job so they still get paid regardless... I'm the one that takes the bath. So we just laid down the rule... If it's our part and it's defective I don't mind eating it.. but no more carry in parts.
This reminds me drastically of why we won't install seat covers over old foam.
We put new covers over old foam and 99.9 percent of the time the customer isn't going to like they look. So even though we told them ahead of time that they would fit crappy because the foam is collapsed, now they want new foam. Well who eats the labor on the second install.... So we just decline to do the job if the customer rejects new foam.
It's a fine line... we tell them we will sell them only what they need... and nothing more but you and I know that sometimes they think otherwise.
One of my Fathers favorite sayings while growing up was, "son, if you don't have the time (or money)to do the job right the first time, where will you ever find the time (or money)to do it over again?"
I do like Stewart pumps, and use them whenever I can.

Interesting.. I have one on my 72.... But I restored the car years ago and put one on it at the customers request and then ended up with the car it in a odd way...
I'm too old school Bats.. I like the old solid lifter cams, regular oil, rubber bushings (vs poly), steel leaf springs and stock shocks. I'm probably not a good person to ask this too..
On the other hand, I've had mine for over 12 years without issue.. but if it were my choice when it was installed I'd have a stock water pump.
