Old school rear on later model teaser
OK, the work is progressing on the race car. One of the things on my list was to get the rear end in shape with a 68 - 73 look.
I just received a beautiful new rear end, fit is great and it looks awesome. I can't wait to get it mounted up and get the car in the body shop, this one will be Orange with a Black stripe, my other '77 is Black with an Orange stripe.
If you'd like more info PM me - the work is top notch.

But most guys are going for the 'shaved' look. If you look an nearly all the old L88, Trans-Am, and autocross cars, the front and rear bumpers are removed. There are "shadow" bumper lines in the fiberglass that makes it a particularly good look...if that's what you're going for.
I believe all of these are fiberglassed into the body. Similar to the fender flares.
Looks like there would be some tweaking in order on the lower lip and I would certainly, without question, glass that bad boy in.

I have seen many chrome bumper conversions and not one would please the die hard purist and they were never meant to.
This is a part for the biggest trend in c3's and that is modifying or personalizing the cars to suit the owners, no one part will please all and shouldn't be expected to.
This threads example is the best I have seen so far, others rework things to invent a new trendy restro mod look, some like that but this one captures the classic old school look, the spirit of the 68-72/3 that more people who would want this conversion are going for,

The shortened bumper is pretty darn clever, the market light at it's point looks in many ways better than stock to me, "flow".

I can see that working out well for some and I can also see people bond in this cap and in that go with the relocated stock marker and even a stock chrome bumper, which even stock isn't some big huge well designed safety item, ( Priya, my hats off to you for doing your conversion like the factory would have
) In my case I plan to just run fiberglass bumpers on my 69, that will be basically cosmetic.

Bond or bolt, we all know that even stock from car to car and in the aftermarket bumper caps fit one car great and the next perhaps not as much, I would believe most people will glass this item in and that is the end of that,
Why do a chrome conversion and not add the bumpers.....

Shaved bumpers is another option and looks really good if the build is tailored and trimmed out that way, "flow"... Sponsor decals period paint layout and race trim all lead into shaved bumpers, some modern builds with no bumpers just look like something is missing from an otherwise stunning show car,

Ironically while I will trim out my 69 that "road racer " way I am running the bumpers, it is after all a guilty pleasure of owning a chromie.

Seems this is one of those things if you like it run with it if you do not then don't let it upset you....

This piece can be bolted on or glassed on. I'm going to bolt on using the smaller separate retainer pieces and then when it goes for paint I'm going to eliminate the seam. I plan on using fiberglass bumpers that came with the rear. The car is going to be semi gloss and the bumpers will be silver semi gloss as well.
The fit is excellent, every car is different of course but after lining up the body lines on top the sides are within 1/4 inch adjustment which should be easy with the separate retainers.
I looked at some others of this design and this was the closest to the classic look I was after.
The quality of the piece is great, it was shipped safely tucked in a custom made crate, I'm happy.
Now, does anyone have a nice complete set of tail lights ? I had no idea on the prices of the new ones.
