Default Trailing arms

I use Van Steel for my work. They are local for me and I drive my parts there for any work. They do this all day long and have been doing it for decades. I would NOT get poly bushings on the arms. They tend to harden and fall apart. Shops that specialize in rebuilding, have the tools, parts, etc. to do it right the first time. They will match the rotor to the spindle to minimize run out. They can also repair or replace and set up the parking brake. Lastly, once together, a good alignment shop will ask you questions like, "Are the shims easily removable"? I use a shop in Tampa that aligned my 66. It took a few hours and the tech removed the rear shims and started from scratch. Good luck. Jerry

I have a 81 vette and I replaced the trailing arms (new rebuilds). I'm looking for information on the shims. I haven't got them in yet. Can I use the old shims ? Can I drive it (slowly) to have it reshimed by an expert ?
How tight do they really have to be ? I'm in North Jersey, if there is anyone that's done this before in the area ?

Thanks !

you can reuse the old shims .you can put them back in the way you took them out .if theres five on this side and 3 on the other put them back in this way .you may be close..you should be fine driving to the shop this way.

Sorry, I saved the old shims & taped them together, when I installed the new shims, I put the same # of shims of the same size right back in; But Yes, a good frame shop can put them in the right way. Pain in the rear, to take them in an out. Good Luck, To be a sport car driver, you half to become a sport. Happy & Safe 4 th of July. God Bless our Country. Gene
