Default idler arm

The two bolts that hold the arm on are they solid on the bracket or do they come out . 1976 . Want to replace the arm but mechanic said he would have to drop the headers to get it out there is about 1/8 inch from the end of the bolt to the header. Everything else has been changed out .

Thanks.
I have never removed one how hard is it to separate the ball joint if you don't have the right tool?

One of the easiest jobs on the car.
For less than $10 you can own a pickle fork.
Usually a few good wacks with a hammer and you're good to go.

Not a hard job at all. Pickle fork is useful - you may need it later for tie rod ends. Just went through this on my project and very doable. One word of wisdom given to me was if one of those moveable joints has gone bad or about wore out, you can be fairly sure the others are weither there too or not far behind. A good overall time saving idea is to replace them all at the same time. Be sure and count the turns and on the tie rod ends when you take them out. And be sure you spend a few extra bucks and buy the better quality (Moog) parts. Good luck, post a few pics of the process!

Had the whole front end done .all bushings ,all ball joints , new bearings , springs . But the guy must of had a brain fart he said the headers were in the way and dropping them wasn't in my price . If the bolts come out like you guys say I will swap it out tomorrow .

So far no go . Only thing I can get on the nut is a open end wrench . Cant budge it afraid of rounding out the nut . Sprayed it down will let it set to tomorrow and see what happens .

Probably tight due to its proximity to the header.
Let the oil do its thing - should come off then.
If the nut hits the header before it clears the bolt simply push the bolt back through the frame until it does.

OK . Got it off the new one in . Pretty much back in the same spot , but the new one is heavier duty . Last question is how tight do you make the spindle nut ?
