Did this a while ago - thought maybe someone else might like this idea...(& please don't shame me for the sad fiberglass/body state - I bought it that way... - all things in due time...)
Anyway - I picked up these steel caps / plugs at my local hardware store, can't remember the size, but they popped right in & you can pull them off easily enough with your fingers... the prongs on the back can be adjusted out for more tension, and they are curved inwards & wouldn't scratch your paint... Not exactly a "factory option", but I figure if you're not sure you like your luggage rack, these would be a simple alternative... And I believe they could be painted to match the body as well...
I used 3/16" nylon plugs because the holes are small, I think the mounting well nuts were left in there when the car was repainted. Back right corner even looks like it has a washer on top but under the paint.
Red marks point to hole locations where I put 3/16" nylon plugs. Insets: better look at one and a plug with package.
In need of fresh paint, so I'm a member of the poor paint club.
Forgot to say I had to glue mine in after a couple were lost from either a wash or just driving. Maybe 1/4" would have fit tight but I didn't want to crack the paint around those holes any more than it already is. Just glued these in with a tiny dab enough to hold. Also seen them fade fast to a gray within a few weeks so they don't stay black.

My wife loves them (ugh!), she has one on her Mustang.

Would love to lose the luggage rack on my '75 but haven't made up my mind yet. At least the luggage racks look "better" on the convertibles IMHO than on the coupes.
A clean look, like it might have actually been designed for it might be something from a c2 convertible. I had one with a removeable hardtop and the 2 studs that come out of the bottom of the hardtop fit into the holes to hold the top on the car. After owning the car for about 10 years I realized that the 2 studs were actually machine screws with a rubber washer under them. They were designed to come off the top when not in use and put into the holes on the deck. Not only did they look good, but the o-rings under them kept water from leaking in. Pretty sure some vendors might sell these, maybe look into them. My $.02, but I have been out in the SC heat all day.
