I spent 2.5 hours on the whole project and I think most of it was spent just trying to get the plate back in. I ended up using part of the lock plate tool, a bolt from my steering wheel puller, and a socket as a spacer, and used my body weight to push the plate down while I tightened the bolt so it would lock the shaft in place so I could use both hands to get the c clip in place

Hahaha I know your pain, just last weekend I had to remove the barrel lock for a new ignition system and ended up making my own special tool, getting that clip in again was the hardest part, oh and the cam cancelling cover breaking into a gazillion pieces

I think it's gonna be a while before I can do another project after the exhaust so you'll probably catch up haha. It looks like you've made some good progress on your car recently.

I think I'm gonna have to take mine apart again soon because I'm pretty sure my turn signal switch is broken now. Not looking forward to that.

At some point today I'm gonna order the exhaust system. I want to get an antenna too but I think that money would be better spent on some tools, because I'm sure I'm gonna need some when doing the exhaust.

Looking good for a home paint job by a broke college student. If it holds p to the Texas sun, that's a good test!

Default Impressive work !!!!

Awesome job !!! I think it's very impressive for a young man to have the drive and determination to tackle something of this magnitude, and the will power to continue to be diligent to see it through. I think that says allot about you. Keep up the good work !!!

Well a couple things. First thing you learn in College, is that the words "Broke Student" and "Corvette Rebuild" do not belong in the same sentence. You have proven other wise. Great build, and patience to boot. You have done a fantastic job on this car, nice to follow along with your thread.

Thanks. I keep it covered most of the time, and it's not holding up great to that. There are some blisters in the paint on the front of the car now but aside from that it still looks pretty good.

Thanks guys

I guess the title of the thread isn't accurate anymore, I'm not a college student anymore. I was about ready to transfer from my community college to a university but then we moved and now I'm not really planning to go back to school. I'm working full time at a custom cabinet shop right now and am really enjoying that. I'm still broke though haha. I wish I could keep doing stuff to this car at the pace that I used to but I just don't have as much free time anymore and I have bills now. I did order an exhaust system on Saturday so I should be getting that sometime next week so I have that project to look forward to now.

I have a 350 HP 355 SBC in mine, and i have a set of headman full length headers. They clear everything quite well. I ordered a stock style 2.5" exhaust kit from Bairs, and it bolted up great. Car has a nice subtle drone to it but is very nice to drive around with.

I ordered a dual 2.5" kit from willcox. Just stock replacement stuff for a '74 I guess, but with low profile mufflers instead of the huge ones like my car had when I bought it. For now I'm keeping the stock exhaust manifolds but my dad has some headers for me whenever I'm ready for that.

I was bored today so I went out and polished my rims a little bit and washed the car. The rims could have used some wet sanding but I think they cleaned up pretty good.

I don't really like them. They were on the car when I bought it. Maybe they'll look a little better to me once I lower the car. They're annoying to put back on the car and its hard to put air in them because of the location of the valve stem.

I love that Centerline Auto Drag look, I think if I ever change mine from stock, that's the direction I will go. Reminds me of High School... They were all the rage in the late 80's
