That is super uber cool...both it will fit and that push button, on the 77 which column did it run or in other words was there still the ignition on the column?
That ignition on dash was just something I really loved on my 66 so I figure to add a 68 dash to my ( never ending ) parts list and can swap it out one day my 69 already has a 68 chassis so...
look at Speedway motors for an inexpensive tilt column w/o the ignition- for about $300
OR what I am doing- where the ignition key was- will now be the custom intermittent /delay wiper control....
And using this piece to do the push button start-
will also do the key-less entry- pop the door solenoid (trunk release) and has a transponder- walk away it locks ( totally programmable) flash lights- honk horn or siren...locks out start till you put foot on brake(or clutch or both) and you have to have the transponder- costs about $100 and it draws less than 25 mA .
All 68-77 left and right side lower dash panels, are basically the same. As you know, the 68 has the ignition switch in the dash, and there is a slight difference in the lower inner corners, where the dash meets the console on some of the later ones. Also, 74-77 left hand panels for air conditioned cars, have a small rectangular vent to the right of the column, that's not there on 68-73 dashes, or 74-77 non air ones.
I'm not 100% sure, but there could be a very slight difference in the 68's, where the steering column meets the dash. 68's use a completely different column, with a multi piece column cover on it, which may have required the dash to be slightly different, where the column meets the column?
