My friend Dan has a 69 roadster, he asked me to come over with my gauges to check his oil pressure. He was concerned about driving because the guage was reading so low. The guage I used was from 'Bowtie Overdrives' for checking trans pressure. We got a reading of 25psi at idle and 55psi at 2500rpm. So we new the engine was good. He asked me where to get parts, I told him I use Willcox most of the time. So he ordered up a new guage. Installed it and we all know what a PITA it to dissemble our dashes, and guess what the needle doesn't move at all on the new guage. So he took the dash apart again and tested the guage with air pressure, the needle didn't move at all. We spoke on the phone and I told him just to call Willcox and assured him they would rectify the problem. He did and they told him they double test every thing and there is no way the guage could be bad, he explained to about our testing and was told to get a new mechanic [which is me]. I've purchased quit a lot of merchandise from them with no problems, but this situation doesn't sit well with me, plus I don't like insults.
thanks just venting.
I had a similar experience with mine. OEM gauge was stuck when I bought the car, ordered a A/C Delco replacement (which btw is some kinda' Chinese junk) from Ecklers, didn't work, took it back out and sent it back for a refund, which Eckler's promptly issued... ordered another one from Paragon, this one arrived with the needle in the bottom of the gauge, unattached to the pin, sent it back too...
Very frustrating... I repaired my OEM gauge (with instructions from Wilcox) and it's still working half a$$, it'll only read up to about 17 lbs, but at least it reads something.
Secondary mechanical gauge under the hood reads correctly, but still a bit low for my liking... but I'm not tearing an engine down cause my oil pressure is 10lbs less than I'd like to see.
