My first Wings and Wheels event. The tarmac was hot all get out but the cars, planes and food were all first class. The AT6 Texan did a smoke enhanced flyby before landing and the NCRS Rejected Vette stole my heart. I had a great time, met a few friends and made a few more.
As a former Air Force Sergeant to a former Marine I'd like to say thanks for joining in defense of our country. I did a lot of pictorial research on this plane and without anything on the plane to identify it and not being able to find the pilot I came to the conclusion it is an AT6 Texan. The landing gear matches and the landing lights are mounted in the leading edge of the wing. Both items point to the Texan. I looked real hard at the Avenger but the engine cowling didn't match and the Avenger was an 18 cylinder and this plane is a 10 cylinder radial power plant. The Avenger also had 2 exhaust outlets while the Texan had 1 exiting the cowling on the starboard below the center line. The Avenger is also a 4 blade prop and the Texan is 2. Here is a closeup of the engine, maybe someone can nail the identity down positively. One thing is for sure, I would have gone for a ride in a heartbeat if the pilot would have offered.

The North American AT 6 uses a Pratt Whitney 1340 engine with a Hamilton Standard Prop. It was a primary trainer in the 40s.The North American T 28 Was the next step up in a trainer then the P51 World Warll fighter
