With the exception of the underground journals (and some would argue as to any advantage on this) and the three angle valve job (which Chevrolet never did, but the rules allowed), the remaining engine machine work all remained within the acceptable tolerance ranges specified by Chevrolet. I was confident the engine was stock and was prepared to tear it down to prove it if required.

Revi, that was where I intended to run it. Never quite got there though...

- Headers (open)
- Air cleaner lid and filter removed. (Base remained)
- Choke butterfly removed.
- Alt belt removed.
- Track was at sea level.

It was a very stock car then and has remained that way.
Now 110mph is more believable. Your original post starts with "All stock, with Goodyear Polyglass tires,.........".

My idea of "all stock" is, spare tire in place, 2 1/2" under car exhaust in place, cast iron exhaust manifolds in place, air cleaner/filter in place, choke in place, Alt belt in place. While all of the little drag strip tricks are great for best E/T & MPH, they aren't exactly "all stock".

There was a little piston slap at start up, but it quieted down after it warmed up. Good little engine...

The fact remains that with all GM parts, it made 400 horsepower... Through the manifolds... With the A.I.R. hooked up.

Now I see.......you did the "Top Stock" type build......it is possible.....
Probably a 4:11 car with a close ratio box eh?

A five angle job with blending and backcut valves is the single biggest power maker on these engines......
My 66' L-79 was a beast after I did that (Car in Avatar).
