Default Newbie has questions

Just brought '75 and have found the hood is going to need some fiberglass support near the drivers side hood latch. Because I have only worked with metal bodywork I want to have a pro do this work. I don't know what questions to ask at the body shop. Any help work be great!

Thanks in advance!

Specify fiberglass resin and matte, not bondo when you talk with the shop. Some people think when you say fiberglass, you mean bondo

Post a pic of what you see on the hood.

It is where the drivers side latch is mounted. It looks to be cracked and does flex when I grab the latch

On a 1975 the hood is much heavier than earlier years with all the cowling added. Most people will lift the hood from the driver corner...it will bend and break eventually. I always suggest getting use to lifting the hood from the center point. If will help after this repair is done.

Very good advice, and I was advised not to drop it to latch it. Just put it fown onto the latches, then press one side down to latch, then walk around and press downwn to latch the other

I would also ask if there was any way to inject the crack with a hardening material or resin of some sort to add strength to the damaged area. I rebuilt a head light bezel that was badly cracked by injecting super glue into the fibers of the break before building it back up with fiber and resin.( Kinda bubba'ish but it really bound the crack well,) just a thought! Good luck.

Ask DUB. He seems to be the fiberglass guru. If you do it should be a fiberglass resin, not a superglue I believe.
