Default Fuel issues

All,

There is probably a post somewhere on here but can't find it. Anyway I'm having a fuel delivery issue. At half tank ( on the gas gauge) I run out of fuel. Last night I was stranded thinking I had a 1/2 tank left. Anyway pulled the file sender and it looks good. No broken lines and the fuel level arm moves as it should. Just wondering if anyone had come across this and if the sender is bad or fuel gauge or both. Oh by the way after putting four gallons in the car it fired right up.

Sound less like a fuel delivery issue and more like a gauge/sending unit issue.

Can you be more clear on what your gauge is doing prior to running out? Does it show full and gradually go down or does it hop about all over the place.

Did you do something to the sending unit or is this a recent occurrence?

Fuel the car up and it shows full. As I drive it will gradually decrease to the half was mark and the motor will shut off. Not fuel in the carb or the file filter. The fuel pump will just suck air. I put 4 gallons in the tank and re-primed the carb and the motor re-started. Fuel gauge after the 4 gallons went to 3/4 tank. This is a recent issue.
