Hello,
I have a 1969 small block 350/350. Last time I changed oil, I put in five quarts 10w30. The original owners manual recommended five quarts, but it causes my oil pressure to be a little high. I've had the engine rebuild in past with performance pistons, not sure if that matters in the amount of oil to put in engine. Any recommendations on five quarts being correct amount or other? Thanks!
Can some one recommend the best oil to use?
Just getting it running. Started and drove a few miles.
I know some time back a member wrote a complete article on oils and recommended usage.
It was a great article.
I just put 5w30 in it. Now have a lifter noise, low pressure reading.
Seemed before it would register 30 plus depending on rpm.
Thanks
Max

OP: I agree with Easy Mike - 5 with new oil filter, 4 if oil filter is not changed (that said, change the filter and use 5 quarts).
mrh747: I'm leery of making recommendations. That said, I will share what I've been running in my '79 for the last 3 years at the recommendation of my nationally-respected Corvette shop (who had replaced my cam).
Lucas Racing Only High Performance Motor Oil 10620-1 in 20W50 weight.
It is a high-quality non-synthetic with the zinc needed for our flat-tappet motors. The stuff has performed extremely well for me.
