I am wondering if there is a good stock looking stereo out there for the c3 vettes. I have had 2 from corvette central that have been nothing but complete garbage, 1 just plain quit after 6 months, the other seems to not work with both speakers unless it is at a certain volume. I tested the speakers, and they are good. So my question is if there is a supplier with better quality stereos without having to cut out my center bezel? I have a 70 vette, but I believe all c3's use the same bezel.
I had the ClassicCar Stereo USA-630 professionally installed in my '77 with 6x9 speakers in boxes in the back and 6" speakers in custom kick panels. If you're interested I can get the particulars on the speakers and rear boxes. I have no problem with the system although if I had to do it again I'd get an amp and a sub also. I'll probably do that eventually in addition to replacing the inop dash speakers the next time the dash is out. At speed with the tops off it could use a little more punch.
The first one was staticy as all hell, the second one was so tinny sounding at half volume it was better to shut it off and listen to the exhaust( not too unfortunate), and the third now only works on both speakers at a certain volume.
I had my factory radio rebuilt by Vintage Auto Radio. It now puts out 45x4 watts per channel and has an Aux input and RCA jacks in case I ever decide to put an amp in.

Ace, I would recommend an amp. You're more than welcome to drop by my place and see what I've done. My head is a Pioneer flip up display which is not stock looking and 6-1/2" speakers behind the kick panels.

Aren't those inputs kind of outdated now? USB? Pin plug?
Ace Cobra, what were the brands of the junk radios for the rest of us so we don't buy them?
All of them are the Corvette Central models. I am not looking to put an amp in, mostly because my daily driver does not have an amp and it is loud enough for me.

Corvette Central have more than one type of radio listed.
Not that one. The latest was this one, http://www.parts123.com/corvettecent...50g&ukey=32499
Before that were 2 similar, but I change them in the winter only, since I want to drive the car, so the other models are gone now.
