Default Bumperettes Color

I'm planning on repainting the bumperettes on my '77. I can't quite figure out what the correct gloss black would be. Looking at them, they don't seem quite as glossy as semi-gloss but I think they're glossier than matte. Can't be sure the paint on them is original but, judging from the bad paint lines, I figure it probably is.

I don't see anything in the NCRS judging guide. Any opinions, or better yet, solid references? Semi-gloss, semi-flat, matte? Looking to just rattle can it, any suggestion as to brand? Would it have to be a paint with some flex tolerance? I don't imagine there is much flex in that portion of the bumper.

I vote for Satin finish......there is a very good spray paint available locally especially for automotive flex-bumpers, running boards, step bumpers.....it has lasted for years on my Escalade running board/steps.

Thanks for the input. I'd forgotten about satin. Now that I'm searching automotive flex-bumper paint, I see that they mostly all seem to be described as satin finish. I see a few likely candidates, Wurth, SEM, VHT, Duple-Color. Guess I'll just have to get one and see what it looks like before I commit. Thanks again.

I made some cosmetic repairs to the front bumperettes on my '79 using satin black paint and they are indistinguishable from the original.

The finer grades of steel wool are ideal for achieving just the right level of gloss from nearly dead flat to quite glossy. The finer the steel wool the glossier the finish. A bit of light machine oil will make the process slower.
