P02 hubcaps help wanted
Hey all, I've searched the forum and have found pictures of nicely restored p02 hubcaps and I would like to do the same! Sadly the posts did not include specifics on restoration.
I have the hubcaps. Lots of them. 4 have very nice center caps. Most have excellent ribs or veins or spokes. I believe I can come up with 4 dishes or whatever the rest would be called that are very nice.
So, with budget in mind I really can not afford send them off for a full restoration.
What I need is how to polish the dish part and ribs.
Per the internet I can polish chrome with Steele wool number zero an chrome polish. Are these parts chrome? Can I use this method on the non painted parts?
If not, what is suggested? Please be specific. I am not experienced enough to take vague suggestions no matter how well intentioned!
Please understand I realize I can not fix road rash myself nor can I remove dents.
I am just looking for the best I can do with the parts I have..
If you are close to Everett Wa and can help Please let me know!
I have 12 caps.
Thanks in advance for suggestions!
Scott

The spoke basket is a pot metal casting. The top surfaces of the spokes are bare metal and not chrome plated. Steel wool can clean up the spoke surfaces.
