Air Cleaner Base Dimension
The hole diameter in a Quadrajet base air cleaner is 5". What is it for a Carter AFB? In other words, will the bases interchange?

4" and no. But I was able to make the typical air cleaner work with my AFB.
Get a 4" galvanized vent collar. This is the same size as the AFB opening. Use a small file to make the necessary cut-outs to go around the various "stand-offs." Put an AFB-sized gasket in place and slip this flange over the carb.
Put a piece of split rubber hose, or similar around the base of the air cleaner bottom for an air tight seal and mount the base right to the flue pipe fitting as you would the carb.
Mine had fewer ribs but you get the idea.
As a bonus, you get a heat shield.
