I was reading the recent thread on the ID of a Muncie trans. It got me looking at the trans stamp on my 71.
What do you guys make of the letter re-stamp? Is it as simple as being tagged wrong and then fixed? The car isn't running, so nothing to be gleaned from driving it. Anybody seen one like this?

I've seen transmission restamp before... They typically don't look like that, but that's not to say it didn't happen on this particular transmission like this. What surprises me is the 660 case... Those were phased out around October 1969.
A better photo of the stamped area would help... Might be some other things going on there.

I noticed that too on the 5 speed.com Muncie code page that the 660 case was listed only til 70. I'll crawl back under there this weekend and get some better pics. I'll be sure to get the VIN stamp too. The engine has the correct VIN stamp so I just assumed the trans was original too. Maybe its not!
I can show this to my friend that actually stamped the engine and transmissions at the factory and see if this is original

That would be great. It sure looks like something was directly under the trans stamp and then removed/covered, but what could you even use to make marks like that in cast AL?
