Default Remove or Repair Anti-Theft System

I am starting work on the door components (key locks, power lock, window regulator and motor etc.). I discovered the lock cylinder is a little different then the replacements I got. The original are longer with the switch that attaches. I know the factory anti-theft system does not work, so I'm wondering if its worth trying to get the exact replacement part and try to get the system working down the road or just remove the old system and add a modern system later. What are your thoughts? I'm not trying to make the car all original (but it wont be totally modified either) as it has already had a few minor things changed by previous owners, just trying to fix and update.

Mine doesn't work either. My thought on the alarm subject is that when I'm become rich I'm going to take the car to an alarm shop and have them upgrade the system. I like that key fob idea, and they told me that is for them an easy upgrade. T

The factory alarm was disconnected when I purchased my '81. I tied all of the sensor input wires to a new modern alarm system. It even unlocks the doors at the push of a button. I would suggest doing this if your alarm isn't working now. What year did you say you have?

You could order the correct key switch and tie it in to a new alarm module also.
